Autumn

In our first term of Year 2, we look at changes over time, with a particular focus on Life at sea and changes over time, and Florence Nightingale and the impact that she had on hospitals and healthcare. Please have a read to see all the learning that takes place this term. Underneath is the Knowledge Organiser that the children can refer to throughout their learning journey.

This unit builds on significant events that have happened in the past.

We will be making comparisons by considering how things have changed over the years at sea and the reasons behind these changes. We will research about Pirates; including famous pirates, The Pirate Code and The Golden Age and the global impact that this had on life at sea in present times. We will also explore the role of Royal Navy, the Titanic disaster, sea safety and current methods of sea travel and their purposes to consider the enquiry question 'How has life at sea changed over time?'

We will also be learning about the influence of Florence Nightingale on hospitals and healthcare. This builds on their knowledge of the ‘past’, changes over time and how this impacts on the present.
