Welcome to the ARC!
The children have settled in brilliantly to The ARC and have been enjoying learning lots of new things as part of topic work. The children have been enjoying a range of stories such as 'Room on the Broom' as part of our Halloween week, we even went trick or treating around the school which was a wonderful opportunity for social interaction. This term we are going to be learning the story of 'Handas Surprise' in keeping with our 'My Wonderful World' topic. The children love learning about our world, including about themselves, their school and wider still the rest of the world. In Maths we are thinking about our times tables, place value and addition and subtraction. We have been using a range of equipment to support our learning and lots of wonderful mathematical vocabulary has been used by the children.
During the Autumn Term, we will be spending lots of time settling into our school, meeting new friends and enjoying lessons in our new classroom.
Children will be introduced to a range of texts such as stories, poems, diary entries and newspaper articles. They will be provided with a range of opportunities that will aim to encourage and enhance a love of reading. So far, we have enjoyed reading 'Tree', 'Don't Hog the Hedge', 'Leaf', '101 Dalmatians', 'How to Catch a Mermaid' as well as well-known Fairy Tales. Many of our texts mirror the learning from the LKS2 mainstream classes. This allows the children to remain knowledgeable and up to date with the learning of their peers. Our other texts will be themed based on the current Topic.
KS2 children will write for a mixture of purposes and genres. Most recently, the children researched and wrote their own information booklet all about Bonfire Night and were able to share the brilliant facts they had found out with the KS1 class!
Maths lessons throughout the Autumn Term will cover:
- Number and Place Value
- Addition and Subtraction
- Measures (length and time)
Please see the attached overview of the topics that the children in the ARC will be covering throughout the year.
