Teaching Points

Share learning objective – We’re learning to predict. Define the term ‘prediction’ – thinking about what will happen next.

Establish title – children to blend their sounds together.

Discuss and define the roles of illustrator, author / writer.

Share the cover – does anybody have a prediction? We can use the title and illustrations to help us.

Share the blurb and the illustration - what do you think is going to happen in the story?

As we are reading I want you to:

  • Use all of the clues in the text – illustrations and key words.
  • Segment each word and blend.
  • If you get stuck on a word, what do I do? Re-read, think if it makes sense the way its been read and use the illustrations as clues.
  • If you’re not sure…read on and then go back to it.

Explore page 1 and 2. What do you think will happen next? Do you think Bot will make it to the moon? How long do you think it’ll take him?

Model reading the first two pages, how to use expression while reading aloud – emphasising the words which are followed by an exclamation mark. Explore this with the children – define, explain its purpose.

Read to page 11. What do you think will happen next?

Fast finishers – identify tricky words.

Finish the book – page 13.

Can you tell me 3 key events from the text – beginning, middle and end?

How did the golf club end up back with Bot?

Can you identify the tricky words - said, was, he, I, the, all?

What is Bot?

Do you think the Moon has a shop on it?
